Chicago Public Schools were experimenting with the use of Small Learning Communities (SLC) within several high-needs schools. The SLC approach is where small groups of students are aligned with small groups of core teachers throughout the four years of high school. The idea is for deeper relationships to develop between, and among, students and teachers. It is believed that this can enhance continuity of instruction and increased interest by teachers in students’ futures.

A DoView outcomes model (logic model) was used in the project to identify its outcomes and to plan its evaluation.
